| Speaking of Carol Molnau, she may not be the head of MnDOT anymore, but she still holds plenty of other titles, and she's certain to use them for partisan advantage whenever she can.
Molnau has an uncanny ability to politicize even the most mundane of bodies. This time, it was the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board. Sounds pretty benign, right? The function of the board is "to preserve and enhance the dignity, beauty, and architectural integrity of the Capitol, the buildings immediately adjacent to it, the Capitol grounds, and the Capitol Area." But Molnau decided to use her position on the board to protect the Republican party.
WCCO, via AP, has the story:
The mobile billboard would have been stationed below the Cathedral of St. Paul, not far from where Republicans will be meeting at Xcel Energy Center next week.
But the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board turned down a permit for the billboard on a 5-5 vote.
Lieutenant Governor Carol Molnau, a Republican, cast the deciding vote. She says she was concerned about traffic safety.
Traffic safety? Are you kidding me? Now all of the sudden Molnau is concerned about traffic safety? Where was she when she was leading MnDOT? |
A bit earlier, I received the following message from Martha Ballou of True Blue Minnesota. Please sign their petition.
Yesterday, Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau did her job as the hatchet woman for the Republicans and led a complete power grab by Pawlenty appointees to stop True Blue Minnesota's Jumbotron from broadcasting alternative views during the Republican National Convention.
She did this on the Capital Area Architectural Planning Board no less (not exactly a political group) which overruled the staff recommendation to allow the Jumbotron to go up in Triangle Park.
The reason is simple - they are doing everything they can to hide from their record and it would embarrass Timmy P, since it'll be just a few hundred yards from convention delegates, VIPs and the international media. We heard that they had a lot of pressure put on the members
and the reasons they used for denying the permit were outright false - including one comment that political speech should not happen on public property. Uh, isn't that like in our constitution?
We're doing everything we can - including filing a lawsuit, and with only a few days until the RNC, we need to send a message to Gov. Pawlenty and Lt. Gov. Molnau that Minnesotans are NOT going to stand for this abuse of power. Please talk about this issue in your blog and urge others to sign our petition to Pawlenty and Molnau - http://ga0.org/campaign/truth |
