Michele Bachmann is in trouble -- with just four points separating her from Democratic challenger El Tinklenberg in the polls and the NRCC desperately trying to put together a last-minute ad buy in her defense, she's slinging all possible ridiculous statements at the wall and hoping something will stick.Asked about her statements after the forum at the St. Cloud Public Library, Bachmann denied that she was distancing herself from Bush. She said she has "taken on the president" before and since being elected to Congress two years ago.
It was the second debate in Minnesota's 6th District, the most Republican in the state. But the race has heated up recently, with Tinklenberg outraising Bachmann in the latest fundraising period and the national parties buying television ad time. Bachmann still has nearly four times as much money in the bank as her challenger.

Bachmann said her positions have been "quite different" from Bush's.
"If the presidency would somehow go to Barack Obama, I would welcome him to the 6th District as well," she said after the debate. "As a matter of fact, I would put my hand on his shoulder and give him a kiss if he wanted to."  If the crazy is contagious, I would recommend staying away from the St. Cloud Public Library for a while until the CDC can get in there and clean it up. Reminding people that you embarrassed the entire state of Minnesota (see image at right) does not strike me as a sound campaign tactic, and trying to run from your own record, while expected, is simply deplorable. At least John Kline takes pride in having stood with the Bush Administration on darned near everything during his tenure in office.
But you, good reader, can have a role to play -- help Tinklenberg stay on offense against Bachmann, and we could put together a dramatic change in Minnesota's congressional delegation come November. |
