| It's already been made clear how and why the vote totals in the U.S. Senate race are fluctuating before they're certified next week. Never one to let reality and pesky facts get in the way of politics, Norm Coleman has filed a data practices request with the Secretary of State.
Under no circumstances should the Secretary of State allow Norm Coleman and his allies to discredit the integrity of the election process for the sake of political gain.
Check out the key passages in this statement from Coleman's campaign manager Cullen Sheehan: That is why it is so troubling to us that instead of the normal slight changes in vote totals one would expect during this process, we are now seeing huge chunks of votes appearing and disappearing - statistically dubious and improbable shifts that are overwhelmingly accruing to the benefit of Al Franken. And, as many of these unexplained and improbably vote swings are taking place on the Iron Range, we're asking that local and state election officials provide us with the necessary data to reassure the public that the canvassing process has not been tainted Huge, Mr. Sheehan? Coleman's lead has gone from what, a thousand votes to a little more than 200 since Tuesday. That's a difference of 800 votes out of 2.9 million cast -- a difference of 0.0275%. I find it difficult to believe that Coleman's team would find that difference to be sufficiently slight if the situation were reversed and the corrections were benefiting Coleman.
The other point here is the note about the changes happening up on the Iron Range -- Sheehan's implication appears to be that since the Iron Range votes solidly Democratic, there MUST be corruption in the process. This is disgusting, and should be recanted immediately.
I doubt it will be, however. |
