Rasmussen Dims Pawlenty Presidential Hopes

by: Grace Kelly

The Republican presidential ratings of Tim Pawlenty are very close to Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, who is best known for denying climate change. For a politician who is best known for the ability to smile and sweet talk his way through the most awful news, this polling does not bode well for Minnesota Nice Tim Pawlenty. I think the Republicans like the "fire and brimstone" politicians more. Or maybe instead of pictures of Pawlenty holding up a dead fish, maybe the Republicans need pictures of Pawlenty  holding up a dead moose. Only the 28% "not sure" rating gives a glimmer of hope.

Dick or Liz?

Good Question (0.00 / 0)
It does not say.

Presumably it's the ex-(vice)-president; (0.00 / 0)
I guess I was more startled than I should have been, given the parlous condition of that party, to see his name listed among presidential aspirants.  I haven't seen that mentioned elsewhere.  But I don't troll rt-wing sites for info. and insight;  that's for hardier souls.  Maybe Scott Rasmussen specially likes the guy, for incomprehensible reasons.

Yawn. (0.00 / 0)
Anyone who's reviewed polling data before should find no surprise in the fact that the guys who haven't been major national figures for at least the past two years have the lowest ratings.

Why does this qualify as news? Certainly bigger things happened today in Minnesota politics.

Yawn.

Speaking of dims... (0.00 / 0)
This poll is a morale booster.  It confirms once again the elementary reason why the right is and should continue to implode as a movement:

It still doesn't understand that its fundamentalisms of religion and market do not work as solutions to problems of human life.

The fact that Palin leads the pack suggests that the right's drooling anti-intellectualism shows no signs of abating.  Not only can we hope, but we must fight to ensure that the extremist anomaly which the Republican party has become, goes into a long term decline.  But we also have our own housecleaning to do by sending the corporate water carriers within the Democratic party packing.

T-Paw should be feared... (0.00 / 0)
He says nothing, and is a silver tongued guy with a dagger.

Who the heck knew Governor Carter in 1973? Who the heck knew Governor Clinton in 1989?

Fundamentalists-His pastor is the leader of the National Evangelicals

Fiscal conservatives/libertarians-drooling over is unallotment and no new taxes pledge

Moderates-this is the part that is scary. T-paw appeals to the all powerful base without coming off as angry or a whack job. Remember that Nate Silver the statistics guy rated him as a moderate, when he is a complete extremist.

That is more than you need to get 51%. Appealing to the base w/o scaring the moderates.

That scares me.
