Madia endorsed by UAWby: Joe BodellMon Feb 18, 2008 at 20:21:41 PM CST |
| The United Auto Workers Minnesota State CAP Council has endorsed Ashwin Madia in his bid for the congressional seat being vacated by Republican Jim Ramstad.
Following the Teamsters, this is the second big labor endorsement for Madia this month ahead of the CD3 DFL convention. I spoke with a couple of DFL activists in the know, and it sounds like this is being seen as a good, albeit minor, get for Madia's campaign. The bigger ones are going to be the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) endorsements, if they happen. IBEW, in particular, has the potential to move around six delegate votes one way or the other (depending, of course, on who gets to the convention), and in a race where 160-some odd delegates are voting, 6 is a big number. More analysis on the UAW and other union issues in the CD3 DFL race later this week. |
