DFLer Ashwin Madia is hitting the airwaves with the first TV ad of the campaign for the Third Congressional district seat currently occupied by retiring Republican Rep. Jim Ramstad.
Here's the ad:
In case you hadn't heard before, Madia is a Marine veteran who served for several months in Iraq. Now that you know that fact, this ad makes sure you won't forget.
I'll have a bit more on this ad a bit later, before the time at which the traditional media decides a major national political convention is important enough to broadcast.
Update: Here's the script of the ad:
When I was in Baghdad, I was never able to do this -- just go anywhere and run. My name is Ashwin Madia, and I served in Iraq as a Captain in the Marine Corps.
I went to Osseo Senior High, the U of M, and law school. Then I joined the Marines to give something back.
I approved this message because the old politics isn't working anymore, and I love our country too much to stand still.
I've watched this ad four or five times now, and have concluded that this is a damned fine piece of political advertising. It's positive, it contains simple-yet-inspirational images of freedom, and the hook (I love our country too much to stand still) is a great one.
Kudos to Team Madia on this one -- I'm already looking forward to what else they have in store.
