| If Al Franken and Mike Ciresi aren't strong candidates to challenge Norm Coleman next year, why has the Republican Party of Minnesota engaged all the press releases and would-be pundits at its disposal to get in front of the media and tell the world the RPM isn't worried?
Just my $0.02 ...
In other news, it seems leading Congressional conservatives are worried about losing some mythical debate about the merits of President Bush's plan for escalation in Iraq. From Congressmen John Shaddegg (R-AZ) and Peter Hoekstra (R-MI):
Democrats want to force us to focus on defending the surge, making the case that it will work and explaining why the President's new Iraq policy is different from prior efforts and therefore justified.
...
The debate should not be about the surge or its details. This debate should not even be about the Iraq war to date, mistakes that have been made, or whether we can, or cannot, win militarily. If we let Democrats force us into a debate on the surge or the current situaton in Iraq, we lose.
Well done, Congressmen: you've divined what the vast majority of Democrats and a very solid majority of America has already figured out: President Bush's plan is both strategically and politically untenable. Unfortunately for both of these fine gentlemen, the arguments they keep trying to push are losing steam rapidly. |
