| Here are the basic rules for membership on the Minnesota Progressive/Liberal Ad Network (MN-PLAN):
- Your blog must be Minnesota-based and have at least a primary focus on political figures or issues. The environment? Good. Cute things your dog has done lately? Not so good.
- You need to have been blogging actively (read: at least 4-5 posts per week) for at least three months, and must be receiving at least 1,000 pageviews per week. This means that you should have a public mechanism for proving your traffic stats (Site Meter, Stat Counter, etc). This sounds brutal, but we have to be able to offer advertisers enough ad impressions to make a buy worthwhile.
- Once you're added to the network, the MN-PLAN banner, available here, must be displayed near your adstrip, preferably with a link to the network order page. If you're reading this diary, check out the banner to the left for a demonstration.
Some FAQ on the subject of Blogads:
- How does revenue work? Do I get paid by the hive or by Blogads?
You can find the technical stuff on Blogads.com, but here's the quick rundown: When an advertiser makes an ad buy, even on the MN-PLAN hive, they are not committing to paying the hive, they are committing to paying each publisher (read: us) individually. Blogads takes a 30% commission, and you get the rest.
- If I want Blogads, does that mean I have to disclose my identity?
Not necessarily. There are no direct tax implications for bringing in revenue via Blogads at a low level - obviously, some larger sites do bring in fat stacks of cash for their owners, but if your primary source of income is blog advertising, you probably already have an LLC and an accountant. However, it's worth noting that advertisers generally do like to know who's behind the site on which they're publishing an ad...just something to think about.
Any other questions, feel free to leave them here and I'll update this diary as necessary. |
