Why the Deception about Paulose's Work History and Residency?

Why would Paulose's resume to DoJ not match her Wiki entry?  And why would DoJ deceive people about Paulose's work history and residency?

Paulose's resume (see DAG....411) clearly states:

United States Department of Justice (Jan 2006 to present)
Dorsey & Whitney (Oct. 2003 to Dec. 2005)
Williams and Connolly (Oct. 2002 to Oct. 2003)

At Wiki someone changed the order of her private practice and thus her residency.

She worked in private practice after 1999 at the Dorsey & Whitney law firm in Minneapolis until 2002.[3] From 2002-2006 she was a member of the Williams & Connolly law firm in Washington D.C. Her work at this firm focused on health care litigation and business.[1]

A DOJ press release continues the deception:

From 2002 to 2005, Paulose worked in private practice for law firms including Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C., focusing primarily on business and health care litigation.

Why?

mswsm :: Why the Deception about Paulose's Work History and Residency?
I can think of two reasons for deception:

1) Residency: Wiki and DoJ press release imply that Paulose was in Washington D.C. when she went to the DoJ for her 1.5 month stint for McNulty.  But, an opensecrets.org run indicates that Paulose lived in Eagan, MN before she left to work for DoJ.

  LAWYER

PAULOSE, RACHEL DORSEY AND 11/26/2005 $500 Coleman, Norm
EAGAN,MN 55122  WHITNEY/
  LAWYER

So the DoJ may have wanted to mislead about her residency.  Did Paulose ever put her house up for sale?  Did she rent an apartment in D.C.?  Was she shopping for houses?

2) Suits against Dorsey & Whitney client: According to UnitedHealth:

Dorsey & Whitney LLP, a national law firm based in Minneapolis, has served as United HealthCare's outside counsel since the early 1980s.

So what do we know about UnitedHealth and lawsuits?  Bloomberg reports on Nov. 3, 2006.

http://www.bloomberg...

William McGuire, chief executive officer of UnitedHealth Group Inc., may face criminal charges for reaping $333 million from stock options that might have been backdated to raise their value, say former securities regulators not involved in the case.

McGuire, 59, was ``central to'' a process that set many option dates ``at or near'' the lowest price in a quarter or year, raising his potential profit over 12 years, said a law firm retained by Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth, the largest U.S. health insurer. McGuire agreed to step down as CEO by Dec. 1, and resigned as chairman.  The probe found that ``certain facts run contrary'' to McGuire's assertion to the law firm that the pricing dates were set in advance. The report, released Oct. 15, may expose McGuire to civil or criminal charges by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Minnesota Attorney General, securities lawyers said.

Dorsey & Whitney--the same firm Rachel Paulose worked for until Dec. 2005.  She left Dorsey in Dec. 2005 to go to McNulty's office at DoJ in Jan. 2006.  But wait, on Feb. 17, 2006 she was named the Interim USA of MN.  So she went from the firm that represented UnitedHealth, to main DoJ overseeing Health Care Fraud, to Interim USA of MN overseeing prosecution of her ex-firm's client.  And, all this "unforeseen" activity in a mere 1-1/2 months?  And the DoJ wants us to believe that she worked for Williams & Connelly in Washington D.C. before she went to DoJ in MN?  WHY?

Hmm, (0.00 / 0)
interesting.

I wouldn't put much stock in wikipedia discrepancies, but the disconnect between the resume and the official DOJ press release is interesting.

Hadn't thought of the UnitedHealth connection... keep digging, maybe there's something interesting there.

Defeating Norm Coleman and choosing a Democratic successor to Bush are worthy goals, but let's focus on what's really important: Sending Michele Bachmann back to the private sector!

The thing about Wiki is that someone went in there and purposely (?) (0.00 / 0)
put in misleading dates and locations. The only public information around about Paulose was Wiki and the DoJ press release...that is until the forced document dump. Correspondence about Paulose wasn't requested, it just happened to be included in a batch of resumes.

another issue raised by the contribution... (0.00 / 0)
What the heck was the U.S. Attorney doing giving money to Norm Coleman just a few weeks after her confirmation? Was it a thank you gift perhaps?  She gave him $500 on November 26, 2005 when she was working... hmmm, where was she working? Anyway, just a few months later, she was appointed interim U.S. Attorney, in February 2006. Did she know that was in the offing in late '05 and want to ingratiate herself with the Republican Senator whose blessing she would need?  She wasn't actually nominated for the job until August of '06.  The Senate confirmed her after the election (for shame!) on December 9, 2006, and a few weeks later, she gives Coleman another $1,000.  A bonus for a job well done I guess.

PACER knows all (0.00 / 0)
If you have a PACER or Westlaw account you can search dockets for the Minnesota District Court and find ample evidence that she was working for Dorsey & Whitney during 2004 and much of 2005.
