| I'm slightly less miffed this morning than I was last night about the Strib article that showed the DFL legislative leadership in a rather spineless light.
Slightly. The miffedness has redirected a bit as I've pondered the possibilities here.
It's possible that the DFL leaders have simply caved to all of Governor Pawlenty's demands. However, it's also possible that Tim Pawlenty is being a disingenuous little rat -- calling the bridge collapse a "catastrophe of historic proportions" and publicly calling for a special session and at least tolerating a gas tax increase, but stonewalling behind closed doors, where decisions are actually made. It's possible that once again, our Governor is playing politics when he should be practicing statesmanship, in an effort to make his political opponents look bad because frankly, he doesn't give a damn. It's possible that Senator Pogemiller and Rep. Anderson Kelliher just got steamrolled, but it's also possible that they really are doing their best to deal with a Governor who extends one open hand while holding a stiletto behind his back with the other.
So here's what we do -- everyone gets calls. Call Sen. Pogemiller's and Rep. Anderson Kelliher's offices to encourage them to keep up the pressure, and not to let Tim Pawlenty play politics with the bridge collapse and widespread flooding.
Pogemiller: 651-296-2577
Anderson Kelliher: 651-296-0171
Call Tim Pawlenty, and let him know that playing politics with these tragedies is unacceptable, but especially disgusting when it's clear he's lying to someone.
Local: (651) 296-3391
Toll Free: (800) 657-3717
Tim Pawlenty needs to hear from the public he claims to represent -- fast, loud, and angry.
[Update]: If you have the facilities, feel free to use these -- they're good.
