It's Blog Day for Ashwin Madia!
Let's make sure that the local Netroots are doing our part to support a great candidate in a tremendously important race. The eyes of political watchers across the nation are on this race, and I know we can have an impact.
I'll be updating this post throughout the day with links to other posts on the subject and progress updates -- be sure to check back.
Update: Flash is up first with a pretty good analysis on one of the many reasons why our support for Madia is so important:
For the last 7 1/2 years, this country has been spiraling into an economic wasteland as the Republics in power have lined the pockets of their rich friends at the cost of the middle class and the future strength of America. They have no vision passed their nose, nor desire to do anything that will strengthen this world for our children and our children's children. They only care about today and what have you done for me lately. We have seen what that kind of short sighted mentality can do for our society.
We have an opportunity to put Ashwin Madia in congress to help right these wrongs, and with your contribution today, we can take another step closer to that ultimate goal.
Ashwin is the Marine Iraq vet challenging Republican Erik Paulsen. He wants fiscal responsibility whereas Paulsen practiced credit card financing while serving in the Minnesota State House. Ashwin wants our troops out of Iraq in 18-24 months, Paulsen is incoherent on Iraq. Ashwin stands up for what he believes in, Paulsen hides his far right agenda ... Paulsen may believe that global climate change is a hoax. Ashwin is a proud Democrat, Paulsen's website does not have the word Republican on it and he'll never identify himself as a Republican.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) is Blog Day for Ashwin Madia. Following the successful event for Steve Sarvi recent, the liberal blogs across Minnesota are driving readers to donate in small (or large) amounts to the campaign to help make sure the candidate has the resources to win in November.
Madia has had no problem raising money, but every little bit counts. Our initial goal is $2,000 -- that means that's a couple of hours Madia doesn't have to spend on the phone asking for $500 and $1,000 donations from high-rollers. Instead, let's prove that small-dollar donations work, and the local netroots can make it happen.
Plenty of updates will happen throughout the day, including links to posts being written by other bloggers talking about Madia's campaign for new leadership in the Third district and the Blog Day fundraiser.
You'll see plenty of donation forms throughout the day tomorrow, but here's the first -- let's get started with a bang first thing in the morning.
Minnesotans and Minnesota campaigns count on the blogs to tell important political stories and sides of stories that might not otherwise get told. That's important enough -- but now the Minnesota blogs are also giving campaigns a boost through participation in initiatives like Steve Sarvi Blog Day and ActBlue fundraising pushes.
Thank you, blogs and blog readers -- and keep up the great work!
Today several left-leaning blogs are doing something that's a bit unprecedented in local politics -- today is Blog Day for Steve Sarvi.
Sarvi is running against one of the most anti-progress, anti-everything Republicans in Congress, John Kline. Kline has made it his business to vote against every bill put forth by the Democratic majority, whether it supports American families, workers, minimum wage earners, children, soldiers serving overseas, veterans, whoever -- Kline has voted against them all. This is not the kind of representation Minnesota's 2nd district deserves.
Sarvi is a strong candidate on his own -- if you've met him or heard him speak, you've observed this fact firsthand. What he needs right now to compete with Kline, to put it succinctly, is money. Hence Blog Day: today we're pushing attention to Sarvi along with donations to him via ActBlue at Blue Majority MN or Sarvi's own ActBlue page (BMMN lets you donate to the other DFL challengers running this year, and lets us track our progress today, but donations directly to Sarvi's page are great too). Let's post a big number today, and show John Kline that he's in for one hell of a fight this year.
